The fact that ‘moving forward’ occupies such a prominent place in our daily work is no coincidence. This focus on progress, which drives us to provide our clients with high-quality solutions that enable them to be more competitive within their own market, comes naturally to us. Our History

Establishment of MJ van Riel

Martijn van Riel started in 1946 with horse and cart in the sand and gravel transport. He soon exchanged the 1hp for two trucks and for loading he purchased his first crane of the brand REO.

Martin van Riel takes over M.J. van Riel

In 1984, Martin van Riel took over the family business and successfully expanded the company.

Takeover of Transport Company Varitrans

In 2000, the transport company Varitrans B.V. came under the umbrella of M.J. van Riel, also a specialist in the field of special transport

Moving into a building on Zevenheuvelenweg

After being active for years from the Kapitein Nemostraat in Tilburg, M.J. van Riel moved to the Zevenheuvelenweg in 2003.

Opening of the Oss fortress

In order to serve all regional customers even better, a branch was opened in Oss in 2005.

Acquisition of Janssen Crane Rental Eindhoven

In 2006, the Eindhoven location opens its doors. Not long after, Jansen Kraanverhuur B.V. is acquired. M.J. van Riel takes over the staff, equipment and customer base and continues to offer customers the trusted service.

Machine relocations, trailers and the heavy segment

In 2013, M.J. van Riel expands with personnel and specialist machinery to perform machine movements. The purchase of modular trailers creates a new branch of transport.

Establishment of Van Riel Forklifts

At the end of 2013, the Dutch importership of Bobcat forklift trucks is acquired. Subsidiary Van Riel Forklifts B.V. starts as a specialist in the field of forklift trucks and internal transport.

Opening of Moerdijk branch

In order to give the heavy segment a boost, a location in Moerdijk, just outside Rotterdam, was chosen in 2016.

Purchase of 700-ton mobile crane

In 2019, a 700-ton telescopic crane is being sought. Mostly for combined projects where increasingly heavier loads need to be moved.

Purchase Demag AC500 mobile crane

Due to the increasing demand and the success of the Demag AC700, a Demag AC500 will also be added to the fleet in 2020. With this, we are taking another step into the heavier crane segment.

Establishment of Hippo Cleaning Machines

In 2020 we founded the Hippo Cleaning Machines brand. With this company we sell our own models of sweeping and scrubbing machines to customers.

75 years of M.J. van Riel existence

In 2021 we celebrated the 75th anniversary of M.J. van Riel. ''Our dad and mom would be as proud as a peacock'', said Martin van Riel.

First Esta Award

In 2024 we won our 1st ESTA Award in Paris in the category cranes up to 120 tons capacity

Second Esta Award

In 2025, we won our second ESTA Award in Munich in the category for cranes with a capacity of over 120 tons.

Our company is more than ever capable of carrying out combined works and projects. Our specialisation lies in industrial relocations, machine relocations and construction work.
